Self adhesive labels on a roll sometimes have extra material called a 'matrix'. It's the left over material that's stuck to the backing after the label itself is cut out.
In most cases when you receive your label roll, the matrix is already removed making it seamlessly integrate into your label applicator. When you print your own labels however, a lot of times you will want to print with the matrix still on the roll so you can have a full bleed label where the ink goes all the way to the edge of the label.
Historically, label matrix removers and label roll winders/rewinders have been an integral part of printing label rolls to prepare them for use in all labeling machines. Up until now you either had to purchase your pre-printed label rolls with the matrix removed or purchase a matrix remover. Now with Zap Labelers line of labeling systems, you can apply labels without removing the matrix. As far as we know we're the only labeling machines that can directly apply labels while this matrix is still on the roll.
How it works is that you purchase your label stock on a roll with the matrix still on. Print your labels using any label printer. Lastly, install your label roll onto any of our label applicators and use normally. This money and time saving step enables smaller shops to customize their labels and get them applied without having to spend extra money on additional equipment. You’ll now be able to print full bleed labels at a fraction of the cost of having a company print them for you AND have the ability to apply them to just about any type of container. The ZLA+ Semiautomatic Bottle Labeler uses a top of the line eye sensor to apply the label then stop the applicator when the label is fully applied.
The Afinia L701 Digital Color Label Printer is one of our favorites. It has a nice balance between printer price and ink cost enabling customers to have an extremely low cost of ownership and cost per label. The Afinia SMR-100 Slitter/Rewinder w/Matrix Removal is a perfect addition for someone needing a remover.
