Packaging Solutions Hub
Stop guessing. We've compiled the technical answers to the 5 biggest bottlenecks in small-batch packaging.
Label & Container Mismatch
The #1 reason labels wrinkle is physics: Taper.
If your bottle is even slightly wider at the top than the bottom (like a "Woozy" hot sauce bottle or a wine bottle), a square label cannot wrap straight. It will naturally curve into a "frown" or "smile" shape.
Hold a ruler against the side of your bottle. If there is a gap of light at the top or bottom, your bottle is tapered. You must use a machine with a Tilt Axis (like the ZL8) or switch to Shrink Sleeves.
The Solution
Don't fight geometry. Choose the tool that matches your shape.
- Cylinders (Straight): Any wrap labeler.
- Slight Taper: ZL8 (Tilt Axis adjustable).
- Heavy Taper/Curve: Shrink Sleeves.
- Flat/Square: Zl5 Flat Surface Applicator.
"Hand Labeling is Killing My Margins"
It's not just about tired hands. It's about math. Hand labeling caps your production at ~150 units/hour. A semi-auto machine immediately jumps you to ~800+.
| Method | Speed (Units/Hr) | Cost Per 1k Units |
|---|---|---|
| Hand Apply | ~150 | 6.6 Hours Labor |
| Zap ZLA+ | ~800 | 1.2 Hours Labor |
| Savings | +400% Speed | Save 5 hrs/run |
Video: Watch the ZLA+ label round containers with foot pedal speed.
The Solution: ZLA+
A semi-automatic machine bridges the gap between "hobby" and "factory."
Perfect for runs of 500 to 10,000 units/month.

Label Roll "Wind Direction"
Ordering labels is the most common mistake new brands make. If the labels are wound the wrong way, they will apply upside down.
- Copy Position: #1, #2, #3, or #4.
(Depends on your container and application style. Call us to confirm!) - Max Roll Size (ZL5 / ZLS): 8" Diameter (5" Width).
- Max Roll Size (ZLA / ZL8): 10.5" Diameter (8" Width).
- Core Size: 3-Inch Core (Industry Standard).

Once you fix labeling, your bottleneck will move to filling or capping.
Scaling isn't about working harder; it's about Batch Flow.
- Fill 100 bottles (Piston filler ensures exact mL dosage).
- Cap 100 bottles (Machine tightening prevents leaks/carpal tunnel).
- Label 100 bottles (ZLA+ finishes the batch in ~8 mins).

- Quick Capper: Electric torque capping.
Common Questions
What if I have a tapered bottle?
Tapered bottles cause square labels to wrinkle. You need a machine with a "Tilt Axis" (like the ZLA+) to compensate for the angle, or use shrink sleeves.
Do I need an air compressor?
No. All Zap Labeler machines (ZLA+, ZL5, ZLS) are electric or manual. You do not need noisy compressed air in your workspace.
How fast is the ZLA+?
An operator can comfortably label 10-15 bottles per minute (600+ per hour), compared to 2-3 per minute by hand.
Can I apply clear labels?
Yes. The standard ZLA uses a physical "Visual Indexing Marker" which is perfect for clear labels. The ZLA+ uses an optical sensor for opaque/paper labels.
What is the return policy?
We offer a 30-day return policy. If the machine doesn't work for your container, you can return it (subject to a restocking fee).
How long does shipping take?
We manufacture in Illinois. Domestic orders via UPS usually arrive within 3-5 business days.
What if I'm not ready to buy a machine?
You can outsource! Our partner, RapidPackager.com, handles contract labeling and fulfillment for growing brands.
How does the warranty work?
We provide a 1-Year Warranty on parts and labor, plus Lifetime Telephone & Video Support. Call us anytime at 800-617-5251.
